The perfectly constructed list of movies for girls night. I promise that when you read this list you will definitely be prepared for your next girls night so
and strap in.
Mean Girls
This movie is soooo fetch and had such a big impact on teen girls today and when it originally came out I mean October 3rd is its own holiday. If you don’t what this movie is about, do you live in a rock? But it’s about a girl called Cady who just came from Africa after being home schooled for most of her life who is introduced into the daily struggle that is high school. And tackles that struggle in one of the worst ways that makes up the amazing plot of this movie.
10 things I Hate About You
As a rewritten Shakespeare play this modernised version is a classic within itself. Kat is the older, scarier and anti-conventional sister to Bianca’s younger, bubbly, popular self and therefore their dad states that Bianca can only do things if Kat does it as well therefore Cameron (Bianca’s love interest) makes it his mission to get Kat a date in order to allow Bianca to date then walks in Patrick who is perfect for the job and we see events that unfold after that.
How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Who hasn’t seen the iconic yellow dress? This movie is about two people who have put a condition going into their relationship that the other doesn’t know about one bet and the other writes a news article as the audience. We see the messiness that gets involved as they both develop real feelings and worse when the families get involved.
Clueless
Ugh as if clueless wouldn’t be on this list. Alicia Silverwood shines as the ultimate matchmaker who couldn’t be a worse matchmaker all whilst dealing with the typical highschooler struggles like bad grades and learning how to drive and how could I forget the fact that her style had a lasting effect on people for decades.
She’s the Man
A woman dressing as her brother to get into an opposing schools football(soccer) team then having a crush on her roommate whilst her roommate’s crush has a crush on her dressed as her brother. That the kid of chaos that I live for and if any of that appealed to you then you should watch She’s the Man.
Drive Me Crazy
A secret gem in this list and one of those lesser talked about Drive Me Crazy has two opposites come together in a fake relationship to create destruction for their previous love interests . This movie is perfect for night in with the girls watching a couple you can’t help but root for.
Legally Blonde
This movie proves that the dumb blonde stereotype is just what I said a stereotype and you should never underestimate them. This movie is the ultimate girl power movie as a girl who wasn’t supposed to go under a path other than a rich housewife makes it her mission to get into Harvard and when she does deals with the struggles of Harvard.
The House Bunny
When a Playboy Bunny is now deemed old she is kicked out of the house she finds a sorority in need of saving and becomes their house mother. Anna Faris shines as a naive but not too much ex playboy bunny.
The Princess Diaries
This movie has Anne Hathaway (one of my favourite actors)finding out that her father was a prince and now she is next in line for the throne, she meets her iconic grandmother and learns the lessons necessary to becoming a princess and the future queen. After watching this movie for the first time I dreamed that one day I would be told that one of my parents were secretly royalty and so I could live my Mia Thermopolis dream.
John Tucker Must Die
Don’t mess with four women who have a vengeful side because they will team up together and go out of their way to destroy your life. John Tucker of all people would know this most of all.
A Cinderella Story
This is the only 2000s Cinderella story that matters.Chad Micheal Murrey the universal crush of the 2000s is the modern prince charming and Lizzie Maguire matches perfectly as Cinderella. Though the plot is somewhat predictable it’s perfect for the girls night due to its comforting nature.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
A British classic and Aaron Taylor Johnson a match made in heaven. Georgia Groome plays a very realistic teenager. She’s awkward, insecure and kind of selfish but ultimately has a good heart which could be the description for most teenagers everywhere.
Miss Congeniality
The icon Sandra Bullock is a tomboyish detective who has to go undercover at a beauty pageant in order to protect it from an imminent anonymous bomb threat. This movie has guns, pretty dresses and a beauty pageant, a mixture that can only be described as a flawless movie choice on the girls night in.
Confessions of a Shopaholic
At one point or another most of us have thought that we might have a shopping problem so watching this movie could be described as a way to convince ourselves that it doesn’t exist. Isla Fisher plays a woman who works at a financial advice column and hasn’t followed that advice whatsoever now it’s coming back to haunt her.
Freaky Friday
As a girl sometimes I wish me and my mother would switch places so that sometimes she would understand my perspective better. This movie perfectly executes this concept perfectly with Lindsay Lohan playing a teen girl who is the complete opposite to her mother but through some freaky magic they swap lives and chaos ensues.
Sleepover
This movie made my expectations for sleepovers to be way too high. I thought it would be all playing extreme games such as driving when having no knowledge and sneaking into a club at 11. Realistically, it was my ridiculously early body clock waking me up at 5 am watching all my friends asleep and me not moving a muscle so that none of them would blame me for waking them up. But you should totally watch this movie to live vicariously through the characters.
Uptown Girls
The legend Brittany Murphy(RIP) stars alongside Dakota Fanning as a rock star’s daughter who is broke and is forced into babysitting Dakota’s character who is afraid of being sick. Dakota’s snarky character makes her a great comedic weapon to Brittany’s unstable character.
Bridget Jones’ Diary
When you’re single and messy and somehow find yourself in a love triangle. Bridget Jones Diary in one sentence. This movie is a staple in romance movies. Watch it right now, no drop what you’re doing and watch it.
Failure to Launch
When your parents have to hire a woman to get you out of their house you know you have gone wrong in life. Sarah Jessica Parker plays the woman who acts as an interventionist trying to get Matthew McCoughnahay out of the house. Obviously she starts to feel real feelings and we see the issues that occur when this starts to happen.
Bring It On
Addressing cultural appropriation and privilege and with cheerleading sounds like a great movie for a night in. In this movie Kirsten Dunst finds out that her old captain stole all her dances from another school made of predominantly black students and from lower income families therefore is left with the responsibility of making up a whole new routine with the inner conflicts of a team and her own budding love story.
I hope one of these movies will be featured in your next girls night.
