The Secret of Us Gracie Abrams brand new album is fantastic.Standing out when a lot of the pop girlies also released albums this year such as Sabrina Carpenter. This list and ranking is just my personal opinion (is it right- yes) and this whole album is amazing regardless. We should all give give Gracie Abrams a round of applause 👏👏👏
17. Gave You I Gave You I
Maybe this song is last in the lineup but nonetheless appreciated. Sometimes you give your all and still it’s not enough you end up used and the person you have given everything to gets bored. This song shows the importance of self worth in realising that you are in a painful situation you should not be putting yourself through.
16. Free Now
This song is the liberation of a hard breakup. It was tough but you made it to be ‘free now’ and in the final moments of the song it highlights a hope and endless possibility of life after this liberation.
15. Normal Thing
This sad song is so raw and self aware about knowing that the person you love is an act and still caring about them and even though you know eventually it will have to come to an end you stay song and still say through the sadness that you had a ‘good time’.
14. Good Luck Charlie
Though lower down on the list something about the fact that Gracie saying she witnessed the end of her friends’ relationship and wishing the best for them and mourning the relationship really hit me in the heart. As a friend you want to support both of them as friends and in other scenarios that means never seeing that ex again but in this case it is much harder as you have to support both especially as you know how much they are feeling.
13. Tough Love
This is an empowering song if you are going on a journey of loving yourself after a breakup and knowing yourself it’s perfect. It’s also you as a listener realising that maybe you have not got the best taste in who you are dating so it’s somewhat a self reflection on your decision making skills.
12. Cool
Side eye as I read the not so casual name drops from Ms. Gracie Abrams. Who doesn’t love a messy song? It’s kind of vengeful and all exposing and that’s what stands about this song. It’s very cool.
11. I Told You Things
Oops shouldn’t have said that. In a song. When you are in a relationship you’re supposed to create a safe space allowing yourself to become vulnerable with each other. Then you break up and all the secret and private stuff you said is still known by a person who is no longer your safe space and that sucks and Gracie makes it known that feeling is a universal experience for everyone you broke off a serious relationship.
10. I Knew It, I Know You
I’m sorry I’m not sorry. Sometimes we have standards and though we shouldn’t have to apologise for that we feel that we must even when chasing the best option for ourselves for once.
9. That’s So True
Ms. Abrams absolutely devoured this bridge and maybe it could be higher but overall as a song I think I preferred the others that I placed above it in this list. Ms Abrams has this envy thing down because the sarcasm that echoes every time ‘she so cool’ is sung in this song illustrates the less than splendid feelings that Gracie has towards this man.
8. Felt Good About You
Disappointment runs through this song because you have hopes and standards just for you to be let down even though you had ‘premonitions’ about what was going to happen. The regret in this song makes it easier to understand why people start to longer expect things in a relationship because the sinking feeling of regret hangs over people.
7. Risk
My delusional girls in the back SCREAM;this is the song for you.So invested in a guy you don’t know but fully ready to commit to the concoction you have created and I think that amazingly brave. This chorus is so upbeat and catchy that it remains adamantly stuck after one listen and makes me feel that I should take the ‘risk’ because then I could always go swimming.
6. Blowing Smoke
Bitterness, jealousy and slightly resentful embodies this song. The lyric ‘if she’s got a pulse she meets your standard now’ highlights this in one line because its almost shady towards the other girl even though technically she is an innocent bystander but haven’t we all felt a bit of resentment towards our ex’s new partner when not healed from the previous relationship. So screaming that people are just ‘blowing smoke’ is kind of cathartic on those more toxic days.
5. Close To You
You have a crush or in very early stages of a relationship with a guy you really like and all you want to be is close to them. Gracie describes the overwhelming need to be surrounded by this person.
4. Packing It Up
Ah new love it’s amazing. Especially as you were so close to giving up with dating then you met that person who changed your life so positively. Gracie gives hope to those still single in this song because she wasn’t looking for someone and that is exactly when she met this person that genuinely cares and made her life better, making us as listeners think that maybe somewhere out there there is someone for us.
3. Let It Happen
The people pleasing ,love at first sight girls just love this song. Why do we as a population keep giving our lives to people we ‘barely know’.? Also why does a song that addresses such detrimental issues such as excessively giving things to people who don’t deserve it have such a memorable hook line?
2. Us.
This song sounds as if Gracie’s and Taylor’s voices were chasing each other through a field and meet at the end to dance around together and it takes us as listeners on a journey that we didn’t know that we wanted to be on.
1. I Love You, I’m Sorry
The bridge and an emotionally charged day hates to see me coming. That’s why this song has been on repeat and will stay on repeat. That’s also why it’s number one on the list.
Gracie Abrams does it again creating an absolute banger of an album.
