12 sitcoms that changed my brain chemistry

These are my go to sitcom recommendations for a re-watch in the transition period of finding new shows, that everyone should be watched at least once. And more importantly these sitcoms will possibly change you brain chemistry. And hopefully they will make to laugh out loud much like our friend Buddha.

1. New Girl

A quick plot introduction is that Jess after finding out her boyfriend is cheating her moves into an apartment with 3 men and we see the relationships that develop and the events that occur from there. The first season Jess was quirky, maybe even too quirky for me but the dynamic of everyone in the loft and the individual traits that they all bring. This ensemble is just hilarious. It also has so many rent free in my head quotes such as  Winston Bishop once saying ‘I got thick thighs and fat ass I dont want nobody to eat me.’

2. Friends

An oldie but a goodie though it has its problematic side and I understand that some things would not fly in today’s media. I love it. One thing you will learn is that a friend group going through life together and then dating each other and hating each other is one of my favourite things in sitcom genres. If you have never watched this show, here is a quick peek into the show. Rachel after running away from her wedding runs to Monica, an old friend from highschool where she is adopted into Monica’s friend group. From there we see Rachel’s development whilst following the rest of the friends in their struggle of daily life.

3. Melissa and Joey

This duo made me want to become a rich aunt who takes in my sister’s children after she is arrested to hire a nanny that 80% of the time I don’t agree with just so I could fall in love with him. Is this extreme – yes. But I love this show. We see two people who aren’t parents pushed into the parent role and see how they tackle that whilst having their own dreams and ambitions.

4. Baby Daddy

This story follows Ben a man who has his child (that he didn’t know existed) put onto his doorstep and now put into the role of being a single father ( I say this but let’s not lie every character plays a key role in the raising emma) and we the shenanigans that unfold from here.Bonnie and Tucker. That’s it. This is the dynamic duo that changed my brain chemistry.

5. 2 Broke Girls

Caroline Fanning recently became broke after her father gets arrested for embezzling money, gets taken in by Max Black and starts working in a diner with a uniform that they complain about all the time but I could totally see it being a cute costume. What part of this changed your brain chemistry you may be asking? Jennifer Coolidge. Watch this sitcom if you haven’t. It’s hilarious.

6. How I Met Your Mother

Though I would rather walk into ongoing traffic than admit the ending was good I do love this sitcom. The ongoing jokes in this are amazing and catch me one day doing a slap bet with someone. This story follows Ted as he tells his children a looooooooong winded version of how he met their mother and all the messes and bad decisions that happen along the way whilst telling them about his friends as well.

7. Scrubs

Daydreaming is so powerful and this is shown through JD. This show follows him and friends in their first year and beyond as doctors at Sacred heart we meet the eccentric, crazy, mean but good hearted Dr Cox that JD desperately wants to be good enough for. I will not lie to you upon re-watch. I won’t even touch the last season buuuut overall my brain changed forever.

8. Parks and Recreation

Though made by the same people who made the office( which is next on the list) after season one it takes a distinctive turn and makes its mark of being an iconic show in its own right. It follows Leslie trying to do good as a government worker whilst interacting with the crazy people that work in her office (Ron Swanson with any Tammy *cough cough) it follows her love life and friendships and the other people in the office’s growth and developments.

9. The Office

Working in an office never seemed like such a good idea after watching this sitcom. I had dreams and ambitions but the office life doesn’t seem so bad as long as I had a crazy boss like Michael and a crazy desk mate like Dwight to prank constantly. Maybe I might have to stick with my dreams and ambitions.

10. Miranda

This iconic British sitcom recommendation taught me it’s ok to be awkward and you are actually hilarious if you are. All I can say is that we join Miranda, a character that consistently finds herself in the most bizarre and laugh-inducing situations.

11. Community

Community is so good. The most unlikely group of people come together to have a great friendship in a community college all whilst some of the most unrealistic scenarios occur such as a paintball tournament that changed the history of Greendale or Air conditioner school. Some of the episodes in this show are the best I have ever seen. How we are introduced to the characters is when Jeff after being found out for faking his bachelor degree has to go to community college in order to return to the lawyer lifestyle tries to get with one of the students in his spanish class forming a Spanish study group creating the misfits of all misfits friendship groups ever.

12. Superstore

Last but never least the sitcom Superstore is a show that made working in a supermarket not seem that bad. Thai show is so funny and each character even the smaller ones eg. Justine gives everything needed to give. As an audience we watch as all these different workers coming from a range of backgrounds come together to work in this store and grow, falling in and out of love and having all kinds of personal developments.

Do you already feel your brain chemistry being altered. Watch these sitcoms if you want to feel the true effects.
