Sabrina Carpenter : Short n Sweet Ranked

Sabrina Carpenter absolutely devoured when making this album and with only 12 songs it really is Short n Sweet. This is my opinion on the order that Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album songs should be ordered and some would argue that this is the politically correct order. A disclaimer: I love every song on this album and so even the songs that are ranked lower are still loved and appreciated in my heart.

12. Espresso

This position in the rank may stem from the fact that the song was played on repeat well before the actual release date of the album therefore did I maybe have slight distaste for this song on the album, nonetheless a catchy song perfect for an earworm.

11. Slim Pickins

This song is just personally not my cup of tea and though I like the country twang of it there are just other songs in this album that I prefer. Although, I can appreciate the feeling of thinking that there are no good men out there.

10. Taste

This song epitomises the feeling of being an ex-girlfriend and thriving whilst being in that position. This song taunts and pokes fun at on and off couples and makes whoever listens to it feel empowered in their choice to leave that relationship and we love a queen who makes people feel secure in their decision to leave an ex who definitely wasn’t worth it.

9. Please Please Please

Haven’t we all had one boyfriend that we desperately don’t want to embarrass us ? This song encapsulates those feelings through the pleading of making sure our boyfriend doesn’t do his dumb behaviour in front of us.

8. Don’t Smile

Even though the last song in the album it packs a punch with its dreamlike and hallucinogenic melody that expresses the heartbreak and bitterness that comes from a breakup. The vocals shine through in a chorus that sounds like angels telling the listeners it’s ok that they are still hurting even if the break was necessary.

7. Bed Chem

This song can be described in one word: ovulation. Honestly it’s a flirty song that has a catchy beat that can so easily get stuck in your head. After a few listens you will be washing the dishes and humming about camaraderie.

6. Lie to Girls

This song has such a beautiful sadness and truth to it. We can all be slightly delusional and sometimes you just straight up lie to yourselves. This song breaks my heart because why do people consistently keep bending ugly truths. The simple tune that builds up into the final verse highlights the almost spiral effect of the first lie that continues going downwards and soon you don’t even recognise the person you have created in front of you that you call the love of your life.

5. Juno

A stark contrast to Lie to Girls this is a big I have a crush song and I want everyone to know. I mean the namesake of the song is literally a pregnant girl so that just shows how much you like this person. This song has me bouncing off walls when thinking about a crush and making me genuinely think that he should make me Juno.

4. Good Graces

Picture this:you have just got over your break up and you reach that point where you actually don’t care about anything that person says and all you are thinking about is how easy it is to cut this person off. Then you write a song. This is how I feel about this song. It is amazing and you feel the genuine nonchalance and uncaring nature of Ms. Sabrina Carpenter and it’s perfect for a getting ready playlist to get pumped up.

3. Coincidence

The peppy acoustic guitar and the ‘la la laaas’ really adds towards the almost palpable irritation that comes through the songs. As a listener we know that we are being lied to and the statement of it being a ‘coincidence’ is sarcastic and snappy because we are sick of the constant lies.

2. Sharpest Tool

Lyricism Lyricism Lyricism. You can’t think for a single moment that Sabrina is not a wordsmith when listening to the song. I mean the simplified chorus as Queen Sabrina Carpenter knows that this person is not the sharpest tool in the shed is just astonishing and I just love this song.

1. Dumb and Poetic

For me this is the best song on the short n sweet album. I love love love this song it doesn’t need a fancy explanation it’s on repeat and I am obsessed with it.
