This blog post answers the question of what is the cornetto trilogy? Whilst appreciating one the best things to come out of British media; Edgar’s Wrights excellence when writing movies.
Shaun of the Dead (Strawberry)
The first of the cornetto trilogy and was inspired by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s tv show Spaced (1999-2001) . Two reasons why I love this movie:the friendship (honestly the friendship is something that I love about all these movies) but the something about the running jokes and continued callbacks is something that gets me to the end (who knew a fart would be so emotional). 2. Walking to the shop scene, I think Edgar Wright just described daily, monotonous life as being the equivalent of living like a zombie – yes. However, the side by side comparison to when zombie apocalypse has happened and the original walking scene is honestly the best game of spot the difference there is and makes a social comment that we as society have to break or patterns or a whole zombie apocalypse could be happening around us and we wouldn’t know until a girl was pierced by a pole.
Hot Fuzz(Classico)
Did I write this entire post due to the fact I wanted to express my deep love for this movie – ABSOLUTELY and I would do it again. The humour, the fight scenes, the characters everything about this movie fits together perfectly without a piece it would be incomplete but together it’s beautiful. The bromance between Danny and Nicholas is a bromance. I wish everyone could experience the real life friendship between Frost and Pegg shine through and elevate the film. Also, the background characters are astonishing the Andys are hilarious throughout (the moustaches alone could be a whole character within itself) and Doris (our future queen) whose dirty quips were hilarious throughout .Additionally, the action and whole plot of this film hits different in comparison to the other films in the trilogy , this tiny town holds so much chaos and only upon re-watches can you notice small nuances added into the movie visually that almost sum up the whole plot. Finally, remember to watch out for farmers’ mums and geese when in the country. If you only watch one of this trilogy (even though you should definitely watch them all) it should be this one. And all the readers said – YARP.
The World’s End (Mint)
Though released the latest The World’s End feels like an edgy older sibling of the cornetto trilogy(Rodrick from Diary of the Wimpy Kid) really living up to its flavour. This movie describes that one person who peaked in high school – even though they were a horrible person- then develops raging alcoholism and combines it with aliens who want to make the world a better place but do it in the most toxic ways possible. I know that I said Hot Fuzz has visual nuances that you can’t miss but his movie is also filled with them. For example, the fact that each bar has the number that is placed somewhere in the scenes in the bar or that the background of the scenes gradually add more green and blue highlighting the impending doom for the world. Overall, this movie honestly convinced me that having a selective memory would save my life and that if you want to go bar crawl don’t ever go to Newton Hayven.
Now go and watch the trilogy
